Hygienic HRSG (cooling tower cleaning) is a dedicated cooling process that is indispensable for the production process in factories and enterprises. To better understand the cooling tower and know to clean the cooling tower effectively, let VIVABLAST give you some information.

Efficient HRSG cleaning when you fully understand the structure of the cooling tower

To have an effective HRSG cleaning method and better understand this device, let’s learn about the structure and operating principle of the cooling tower. Most types of cooling towers today have a system consisting of parts corresponding to each below function:

  • Cooling tower outer shell: Made of high-strength fiberglass composite, resistant to corrosion, rust, and impacts from the external environment. In addition, cooling tower housing requires high gloss and UV resistance.
  • Propeller: Aluminum alloy is the ideal material used to make this part to ensure lightweight, easy to rotate to create large wind force. Depending on users’ needs, the user can adjust the speed of the propeller.
  • Motor system: This is a specially designed part and is moved by gears to facilitate operation. The device has a neat construction and is highly water-resistant.
  • Water distribution system: This part is composed of sprinklers and water dividers. The faucet head is designed to rotate clockwise with water thrust ranging from 2 to 23 rpm.
  • Cooling plate: The cooling plate has the function of dividing water to reduce the temperature, so it is designed to be a waveform to limit impedance. This detail is made of high-quality, durable PVC material.
  • Coldwater tank: This part is located at the bottom of the cooling tower, where the water source for the cooling process is stored.
  • Sound reduction device: This detail can reduce the noise level of the tower during operation.

In addition to the main parts above, the cooling tower also has several other details: windows, float valves, overflow pipes, water inlet pipes, water pipes out, engine boxes, etc.

Understanding the different types of cooling towers and how to clean them

Current cooling towers are designed in various ways, each with different cooling tower cleaning (vệ sinh tháp giải nhiệt) solutions. The following are the three basic types of cooling towers and the corresponding cleaning principles:

HRSG cleaning – How is the closed circulation cooling tower cleaned?

For a closed circulation cooling tower, there will always be a fixed amount of water in the pipeline to maintain the system. Besides, the water is constantly pressurized in this system and can remove the excess air through automatic aerators. The problem of HRSG cleaning for closed circulation systems is not too demanding in water treatment. Instead, cleaning requires anti-corrosion and anti-bacterial solutions. Therefore, chemical treatment will be introduced from the beginning to deal with this problem. After that, the water quality will be regularly monitored and maintained to ensure the concentration is always up to the recommended standard.

HRSG cleaning – Principle of the open circulation cooling tower

Open circulation cooling towers are used quite commonly in modern industry. According to the operating principle of this type of tower, circulating water will be lost by evaporation and will be supplied continuously to compensate for the loss of water. As a result, water quality is also constantly changing. Besides, airflow through the tower makes the water easy to absorb oxygen and dirt. Oxygen in the water is the leading cause of corrosion and dirt that accumulates over a long time and will clog the flow. At the same time, as the water evaporates, the chemicals remain and then accumulate. Therefore, in this case, HRSG cleaning is extremely necessary. Users should regularly monitor and control to quickly have a timely treatment plan.

The importance of HRSG cleaning and the most widely used cleaning method

HRSG leaning – The cleaning of the non-circulating cooling tower

In contrast to the above two circulating cooling towers, non-recirculating cooling towers can not reuse water. Therefore, this system will mainly use low-cost water sources such as rivers, streams, and ponds to save operating costs. However, this is the water source containing the most dirt, so it is necessary to have a suitable HRSG cleaning plan for this system.

The HRSG cleaning according to the standard procedure

There are many types of HRSG cleaning, and each one will have different cleaning methods. We can refer to the following process to know how to clean the cooling tower properly:

  • Step 1: Turn off the power, and turn off the water pump so that the cleaning process takes place safely.
  • Step 2: Drain the water in the tower and retain a certain amount of water to dissolve the detergent. At this step, you need to pay attention to choosing the right chemical for the tower so as not to cause corrosion of components in the tower.
  • Step 3: Pouring chemicals into the tower, plug-in power, and turning on the switch again to let the chemicals circulate in the system. This is the step to clean the dirt and the residue in the tower.
  • Step 4: Disassemble accessories such as water pipes in the tower to clean these parts separately. After cleaning, we reinstall the tube as before.
  • Step 5: After basic cleaning inside the tower, we check the amount of oil in the tower and refill if necessary.
  • Step 6: Check the entire electrical system to ensure safety.
  • Step 7: Test run to check the quality of cooling tower cleaning and the operation of the tower. If there are no problems, the cleaning steps of the tower have been completed.
