What is the training from the Global Wind Organization? Why is GWO training considered a vital program for human resources in the wind industry?

GWO stands for The Global Wind Organization, which was created by big wind turbine manufacturers and owners such as Vestas, Siemens, rested, Vattenfall, GE, Enercon, and others. The GWO organization was established in order to ensure a safe industry with the first version of the GWO Basic Safety Training, also known as the GWO BST standard, which was launched in 2012.GWO training 4 - vivablast-minIn 2017, the GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) Standard also launched this technical standard. After that, some new GWO standards, such as GWO Advanced Rescue (ART) and GWO Enhanced First Aid, were released and added to the program. Once joining GWO training, all trainees are expected to improve their knowledge which helps to work in the wind turbine industry. Moreover, this qualification is required for all technicians, site managers, project coordinators, HSE people, subcontractors, and others who work on a construction site.

How many courses in the GWO training in VIVABLAST? Detailed information for each course

There are various GWO certifications and at VIVABLAST, we provide the GWO Basic Safety Training course (GWO BST). The BST is a GWO – approved safety and risk awareness training course targeting wind industry professionals. The BST training verifies that it provides the learner with the basic information and skills required to work in a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) environment. Generally, GWO training with the BST course has five following modules:

1. GWO WAH (Working at Height)

This module aims to certify members to utilize personal protective equipment and execute safe work at heights and safe and thorough basic rescue from heights in a remote wind turbine setting through theoretical and practical training. After this stage, they can know the dangers of working at heights, as they might have to work in the wind turbine industry. They will also be trained to use evacuation gears, approach rescue situations, and effectively employ rescue equipment.GWO training 3 - vivablast-min

2. GWO FAW (Fire Awareness)

This training course aims to provide a fundamental understanding of how to prevent fires, conduct appropriate analysis when analyzing a fire, manage people evacuation, and guarantee all are securely accounted for in the event of an uncontrolled fire. If the incident is deemed safe, the participants should extinguish an initial fire utilizing essential hand-held fire fighting equipment. The trainers will deliver critical lessons on the causes of wind turbine fires and the dangers associated with them so that participants can recognize any symptom of a fire in a wind turbine environment.GWO training 2 - vivablast-min

3. GWO FA (First Aid)

The trainees who take this GWO Training course will understand the importance of performing First Aid safely, following the legislative requirements of their geographic location. Besides that, experts will introduce the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines, as well as the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association (AHA) to wind turbine engineers. The participants can identify and explain typical human body functions, signs, and symptoms of significant and minor injuries and illnesses. They will learn to demonstrate comprehension and proper management in a wind turbine field emergency by learning how to use first aid equipment.

4. GWO MH (Manual Handling)

This course focuses on creating positive Manual Handling and ergonomic behaviour encourages participants to investigate alternatives to manual handling through planning, and trains turbine engineers to conduct Manual Handling activities safely in the wind turbine industry. The course also provides a problem-solving approach to Manual Handling and risk-reduction approaches to assist people in developing their risk of developing muscular and skeletal injuries. This module will emphasize the necessity of performing job duties in proper rules in compliance with the regulatory requirements of their geographical work area.

5. GWO SS (Sea Survival)

This BST Sea Survival course aims to obtain meaningful the ability to act safely and preventively in all aspects of offshore operations from shore to installation vessel or WTG and vice versa, both during the normal process and in an emergency in an offshore wind energy environment. After this stage of training, all trainees are aware of a site’s organizational structure and relevant local legislation to ensure they are aware of the roles, responsibilities, and rules in place at offshore wind farms. Learners can understand the fundamentals of Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems and Search and Rescue.Through practical and theoretical training sessions, the purpose of this BST Module is to enable participants to manage safely and efficiently in WTG industrial situations per GWO standards. To work on-shore, you’ll need to complete the first four modules. You need all five components in case you go with off-shore construction.GWO training 1 - vivablast-minIn addition, GWO BBT is also a course in the training curriculum, which aims for technical stuff, and has just three modules, including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic factors. Although individuals with prior expertise in hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical fields can update and improve their knowledge, mainly since this course will focus on the wind industry, this entry-level course does not require previous experience in those fields.
