The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is a foundational safety training program developed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) to equip individuals new to the wind energy industry with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work safely in wind turbine environments. This course ensures that all personnel working on wind energy projects, both onshore and offshore, are well-versed in safety procedures and prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.

Hands-on training for industry professionals

Throughout the course, participants will actively participate in hands-on exercises reinforcing the theoretical concepts. Instructors will guide each participant through practical scenarios, enabling them to showcase their understanding of safety protocols and equipment handling. This interactive approach ensures that trainees learn and can effectively apply their skills in real-world situations.

The GWO BST course content includes:

  • Basic First Aid: First Aid instruction combines practical and theoretical training, focusing on accidents and first aid procedures related to work in the wind energy industry.
  • Manual Handling: Ergonomic training, focusing mainly on the difficulties of working in confined spaces, familiarizing yourself with the working space in the wind power industry. The training process includes exercises, theory and practice.
  • Fire Awareness: This is a course on basic firefighting skills and handling fires in different situations, as well as familiarizing yourself with used firefighting equipment. The training includes theory first, followed by practice.
  • Working at Heights: The training program will include both theory and practice. The training process includes instructions on the use of personal safety equipment, evacuation drills and familiarization with rescue equipment. Training will be conducted at various heights, including ladder heights and turbine tower heights.
  • Sea Survival: Training in a maritime environment to familiarize trainees with equipment. Also includes indoor and outdoor survival exercises, rescue exercises, boat-to-TP handovers, and other safety exercises. The training is a combination of theory and practical exercises.
