Blade repair training for wind energy professionals

The GWO Blade Repair training program, developed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO), is designed to equip wind energy professionals with the skills required to inspect, assess, and repair wind turbine blades. As a critical part of turbine maintenance, blade repair ensures the longevity and efficiency of wind turbines, which are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. This specialized training enables personnel to perform blade repairs safely and effectively, contributing to the overall productivity of wind energy projects.

Comprehensive training for blade maintenance

Participants in the GWO Blade Repair course engage in both theoretical and practical exercises that cover all aspects of blade repair, from understanding blade structure to mastering the techniques for fixing damage. The training provides an in-depth understanding of composite materials, blade construction, and the different types of damage that can occur during turbine operation.

Delegates completing a GWO EFA training course will be able to:

  • Perform and document a wind turbine blade inspection
  • Explain typical types of composite construction, materials and the importance of surface finish relating to aerodynamic performance and efficiency
  • Prepare operate and maintain the correct tools and equipment, be it mechanical or electrical
  • Demonstrate the ability to work safely with applicable chemicals while utilising the applicable PPE in a controlled manner throughout all phases of composite inspection and repair work
  • Distinguish between and work safely in a controlled manner with epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, methacrylate, reinforcement materials and solvents related to composite inspection and repair work
