The GWO Control of Hazardous Energy (CoHE) – Basic is a specialized safety training program developed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) to equip individuals working in the wind energy industry with the essential skills and knowledge needed to manage and control risks related to hazardous energies.This course ensures that personnel working in the vicinity of hazardous energies are well-prepared to identify risks, follow safe working procedures, and contribute to creating a safe working environment in both onshore and offshore wind projects.

Hands-on training for industry professionals

Throughout the course, participants will actively participate in hands-on exercises reinforcing the theoretical concepts. Instructors will guide each participant through practical scenarios related to hazard identification, energy isolation, and safe working practices.This interactive approach ensures that trainees learn and can effectively apply their skills in real-world situations when working with or near hazardous energy sources.

The GWO CoHE – Basic course content includes:

  • Introduction to Hazardous Energies: Overview of hazardous energy sources  in wind turbines, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and stored energy.
  • Risk Awareness and Hazard Identification: Understanding the risks associated with hazardous energies and how to identify potential dangers in the workplace.
  • Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO Principles): Basic principles of isolating and controlling energy sources to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Roles and Responsibilities: Understanding individual responsibilities when working in the vicinity of hazardous energies.
  • Safe Working Practices: Procedures for working safely near hazardous energy systems and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Emergency Awareness: Basic response actions in case of incidents involving hazardous energy.
