GWO Control of Hazardous Energy (COHE) – Electrical Safety

Enhance your safety skills: Essential training for working safely with electrical energy

The GWO Control of Hazardous Energy (CoHE) – Electrical Safety is a specialized safety training program developed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) to equip individuals working in the wind energy industry with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work safely with and in the vicinity of electrical systems. This course ensures that personnel can identify, isolate, and control electrical hazards, follow safe working procedures, and perform assigned electrical tasks safely and efficiently in both onshore and offshore wind environments.

Hands-on training for industry professionals

Throughout the course, participants will actively participate in hands-on exercises reinforcing the theoretical concepts. Instructors will guide each participant through practical scenarios such as electrical isolation, testing, and establishing a safe working condition. This interactive approach ensures that trainees learn and can effectively apply their skills in real-world situations when working with electrical systems in wind turbine environments.

The GWO CoHE Electrical Safety course content includes:

  • Electrical Hazard Awareness: Understanding electrical risks, including low-voltage systems and stored energy in wind turbines.
  • Regulations and Documentation: Understanding relevant standards, procedures, and responsibilities when working with electrical systems.
  • Electrical PPE and Safe Working Practices: Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safe techniques when working with electricity.
  • Isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Procedures for de-energizing systems and preventing accidental re-energization during maintenance.
  • Testing and Verification: Ensuring systems are safe to work on through proper testing and verification methods.
  • Establishing a Safe Work Condition: Steps to create and maintain a safe working environment for electrical tasks.
  • Emergency Awareness: Basic response actions in case of electrical incidents.
➡️ Training focuses on enabling participants to manage electrical risks and perform work safely under real conditions.
