For people working in the wind turbine industry or any industry related, a GWO certification is a must if you want to start pursuing your career and achieve your dream. In this article, VIVABLAST will provide you with a 101 guide on everything about GWO and how to obtain a GWO certification. Keep scrolling to read for more!
What is GWO?
GWO is an abbreviation of Global Wind Organisation – a non-profit organization established by wind turbine manufacturers and owners with the ultimate goal to ensure a safe working environment. The GWO provides courses that prepare future engineers with the knowledge of safety training and emergency procedures to reduce the risks associated with safety hazards while working in the wind industry.
Who should acquire a GWO certification?
The GWO certification is the basic and mandatory requirement for engineers, technicians, HSE staff (HSE stands for Health, Safety & Environment), site managers, and those who work on a construction site to begin working in the wind turbine industry; both onshore and offshore.
How to obtain a GWO certification?
Select your GWO training center
First, you must find the nearest GWO training providing center from your place to register for the course and complete it to acquire a certification. For wind engineers in Vietnam, VIVABLAST is where you should be heading to.VIVABLAST is the first authorized center in Vietnam eligible to hold all the GWO Training courses as well as provide the GWO certificate to delegates upon completing the course. The center was opened in 2020 in accordance with the Global Wind Academy (GWA) from Denmark. When participating in any GWO Training courses at VIVABLAST, you will be able to learn at an approved facility for training with certified protective gear and reliable tools under the guidance and support of experienced trainers. This will not only help big time in preparing for your career growth but also give you the best training experience ever throughout the theoretical and practical classes. One more thing to keep in mind is that this certificate is not only valuable in Vietnam but also recognized worldwide.
Register a GWO Training course
Here at VIVABLAST, we offer three main training courses from entry-level to advanced for you to choose from. These courses are estimated to take up to 1.5 – 5 days to complete and are commonly known as:
-
GWO Basic Safety Training (GWO BST)
The GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) is a GWO standard safety and risk awareness training course dedicated to employees working in the wind industry. The GWO BST equips participants with the acquisition of the basic knowledge and skills needed to work in the Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) environment. The ultimate purpose of this GWO BST Module is to enable people to manage safely and efficiently in WTG industrial environments, following the GWO international standards through parallelly theoretical and practical courses.
-
GWO Basic Technical Training (GWO BTT)
The GWO BTT is a standardized training course for engineering work in a Wind Farm. This is an entry-level course that does not require previous experience in hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical. Not only that, those who have basic experience in those fields can update and improve their knowledge, especially since this course is dedicated to the Wind Industry. All the courses involved will be taught with practical and theoretical training in order to provide you with helpful useful knowledge and also the practice you need for work requiring experience
-
GWO Advanced Rescue Training (GWO ART)
As the name has suggested, this course is more suitable for individuals working in the wind industry (or any related field working in the wind industry (or any field related) and are chosen by their company to perform (or lead) an advanced rescue operation. This course is divided into 4 modules, namely:
- ART Hub
- ART Nacelle
- Singleton ART Hub
- Singleton ART Nacelle
To participate, engineers must acquire a GWO BST certificate in advance and the course is estimated to take 3 days. Upon completing the course, participants are expected to perform rescue operations using standard rescue equipment, methods, and techniques.
Finish the GWO training courses and modules
The GWO BST is the most commonly taken course, which includes 5 principal modules that you will have to learn, including:
- GWO First aid (GWO – FA)
- GWO Working at height (GWO – WH)
- GWO Manual Handling (GWO – MH)
- GWO Fire Awareness (GWO – FAW)
- GWO Sea survival (GWO – SS)
For delegates who are only going to work onshore, you must learn the first 4 modules. For those who work offshore, you are obliged to learn the whole 5 modules.Upon finishing the courses, you will be receiving a certificate to start your journey in the wind industry. For the GWO Basic Safety Training (GWO BST), the certificate will be valid for 24 months so prior to the expiration date, all delegates must undertake the course once again to remain certified. For the GWO Basic Technical Training (GWO BTT), the certificate will have no expiration date.
Conclusion
In order to embark on your journey as an engineer within the wind turbine industry, a GWO Certification is a must to prove that you are totally eligible to perform work effectively and safely with adequate knowledge about this field and carry out any first aid or rescue operations when problems arise. The process to obtain one is very simple. Choose your nearest GWO training provider, register for a training course, and complete it within 1.5 – 5 days to get the GWO Certification. It could be a GWO BST, GWO BTT or GWO ART depending on your need.
